Mika's Pocket Holster

Robert Mika crafting holsters!

Robert Mika is a retired LAPD officer, having served from 1973 to 1993. You know Robert saw some REAL POH-LICING back in those days. Starting early enough to work with some of the old beat and patrol cops from the days of Bumper Morgan, to the troubled early 1990's. So right away, when I hear that a former cop from LA is in the holster making business, I've got to check out what he's making.
I read a one page article on these holsters in a gun magazine tonight. It was an issue from sometime last year, and the author raved about the virtues of Mika's Pocket Holsters. He went as far as to call them ugly, and I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I'd say they look functional, knowing what I know about pocket holsters, and I'll take function over form any day of the week.
They are made from a "moisture resistant material" and I'm not sure what that material is. It's not leather. I'm going to order one and see how I like it. It is very reasonably priced at $29.95.
It has some sort of sticky type band of material on the exterior of it so that the holster stays in your pocket should you need to draw the weapon. It's pictured above, and here's a link to the Pocket Holster page for more details. I've seen one of these holsters and got to try it out. It really would work well with either a J frame snubnose or a .32/.380 mini-auto.

Here is the site for Mika's http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/ and you can find pictures and contact information there. He'll even custom make a holster for your firearm if he has to. There's a quote on the first page about the holster being ideal for a hot, humid environment in New Orleans, I'm thinking this hot, humid Texas land I live in might be a good candidate for it too.

In any event, after reading favorable coverage regarding this holster, I'm ready to give it a try. Besides, if I have the option to support an out of state ex-cop in his endeavors, and he's making a quality product, I'll spend there before spending money with out of state corporations.

He states on his site that he is expecting his turnaround time to be 2-3 weeks in February of 2010.

"Dear Customer, Turn around time for orders is now set at 16-20 weeks. Let me stress that this is only temporary as I have just taken measures to accelerate my production level. Beginning January 31, 2010 I anticipate having my back orders filled and a new turnaround time of 2-3 weeks set in place. In closing I would like say thanks to all of my present and future customers for considering my holsters as their preferred method of carry. If you want the best, look no further. Sincerely, Robert Mika"

The only decision I have to make is if I want a square bottom or a round bottom on the holster. I'll be going with the black on black holster but he offers other color combos http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/color.html.

  1. I suggest you get both. I did and although I use the round bottom 80% of the time, they are priced so reasonably that I like having both. Besides, since it takes quite a long time for him to make your holster, get the other one now. I think I had to wait 4 months for my two holsters, but apparently he has sped up the production and the wait now is only a few weeks. These are great holsters!
