It's a scary and wonderful river all at the same time. Such power it has, to me, even more than the Mighty Colorado or any of the "rapid riding" rivers west of the Brazos.

I heard a story once about a fellow swimming in the Brazos who got hit and killed by a huge tree stump traveling below the surface of the river at an extremely fast speed in some kind of trough and under current.

Of course, farmers and ranchers get hit hard by the drought. I drove through dead corn field after dead corn field today, starved of water being about 2/3rd's grown. You hate to see that.

Mrs. El Fisho's garden is barely hanging on, and all of our friends have harvested their tomatoes. Good ones too, and the best ones were where the folks are using either well water or caught rainwater from tanks. Rainwater caught long, long ago.

Have a happy and safe Fourth, Helene!

El FishoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4790828673028650597.post-50078337212319396312011-06-30T15:38:04.971-07:002011-06-30T15:38:04.971-07:00Helene,

I have a poster on the inside of the closet door of my drum room from the long ago Austin band SOULHAT, featuring their great Sony release "Praying for Rain".

El FishoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4790828673028650597.post-60634597769139235302011-06-29T16:50:29.741-07:002011-06-29T16:50:29.741-07:00Sadl the Brazos river is way down, too. Water bill is edging higher as we try to save the gardens and care for the chickens and rabbits.
Having to buy more rabbit pellets this summer, which have gone up, too.

Hay is going to be very expensive this winter; so will beef. Buy now, People.

Hurts to see the oak trees falling. Salt cedars seem to live through anything, though.

Flooding up north; drought down here in the south. Hurricane Aileen won't do us any good either, and I don't usually hope for hirricane rain. That's desperate.

I feel your pain.Helene Burnetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15372256605575022331noreply@blogger.com
